Isle of Wight Council worker dies in hospital after bin lorry incident

The council has confirmed the death of a member of the waste collection team. Thalia Waste Management said the team member sustained serious injuries on Tuesday, July 29 and was admitted to hospital for assessment, but died yesterday. The Isle of Wight Council said: "We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our valued waste collection team members.

"While it is important to allow this process to take its course, we want to assure everyone that we are fully committed to supporting the investigation.
"Our thoughts remain with the family and all those affected by this tragedy." Thalia Waste Management said in a statement: "Following an incident in the Ryde area on Tuesday, July 29, a member of our Waste Collections Team sustained serious injuries and was subsequently admitted to hospital for assessment. "We are deeply saddened to announce that on Sunday, August 10, our colleague passed away.
"Our deepest condolences are with their family, friends and colleagues, and we ask that their privacy is respected at this extremely difficult time. "We are continuing to assist all relevant authorities in relation to the incident, which is currently under investigation." Emergency services attended Spencer Road in Ryde shortly before 1.50pm on Tuesday, July 29, to reports of an industrial incident involving a bin lorry.
Police said at the time a man suffered serious injuries.
