Dramatic armed arrest in Limerick as suspects ram Garda car and speed wrong way down M7

An attempted burglary early yesterday morning turned into a dramatic pursuit down the wrong side of the motorway after the suspects smashed into a Garda car. The alarm was raised at around 5:45 am on Saturday, when Gardai[1] responded to an attempted burglary at a commercial site in Killaloe, Co. Clare.
On arrival however, a suspect[2] vehicle deliberately smashed into a patrol car and headed towards nearby Birdhill in Tipperary, where the suspects "threw a number of items" at the Gardai. The chase then led onto the M7, where the suspect vehicle sped on the wrong side of the carriageway towards Limerick. The car was finally stopped on the Golf Links Road in Ballysimon, Co.
Limerick with help from the Limerick Armed Support Unit and two men, aged in their 40s and 20s, were arrested. A number of stolen items were also retrieved from the vehicle, which has been seized for technical examination. No injuries were received by Gardai in the course of the pursuit.
The incident followed another burglary reported earlier that same morning. At around 4:20am a sum of cash and several items had been stolen from a home in the Parkmore area of Roscrea, Co. Tipperary.
Gardai said that a number of similar incidents have since also been reported in the Parkmore area Now authorities are appealing for any witnesses to these incidents on Saturday, August 30 to come forward. "Any persons who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) in the Roscrea, Co.
Tipperary and Killaloe, Co. Clare areas between 3:00am and 6:00am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai. "In particular, Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the movements of a Laois (LS) registered black BMW 520 in these areas in the early hours of Saturday, 30th August 2025.
