A1 closures to restore road near Peterborough after fatal crash

The crash damaged a culvert supporting the road, believed to be more than 100 years old[1].

Repairing it has been considered complex due to a large water main near the road and the brook, which runs into a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The site is also close to the remains of a Roman town.

To protect motorists, the lane closest to the structure has been closed.

The latest works will temporarily realign the carriageway by moving the central reservation, allowing two lanes of traffic to reopen at a reduced speed of 40mph.

Full repairs to the culvert are then scheduled to begin in 2026 to 2027.
