Surrey Police stop traffic on M3 to rescue injured fox cub

Surrey Police responded to reports of an injured puppy in the central reservation of the M3 - but what officers actually found was not what they expected. Officers from the Roads Policing Unit went to the busy motorway, between junctions 1 and 2 near Shepperton[1], shortly before 10.30am on Monday, July 14. On arrival, they discovered that the animal was actually a fox cub with an injured leg.

They temporarily held traffic to allow safe capture of the cub, according to Surrey Police[2], then took it to a nearby vet.

A police spokesperson said: "The vet estimated that the cub was just a few weeks old and took it in for initial treatment with the hope of transferring it on to a local wildlife sanctuary for recovery." They added: "We saw that videos of the roadside rescue made it to a local Facebook group, and thought residents might be interested in an update on what happened next".
