Police issue update on M6 closure after eight people including children rushed to hospital in horror crash

Police have issued a new update on the M6 closure put in place after eight people, including two children, were rushed to hospital following a crash on Monday (July 14).
Emergency services and the air ambulance were called to the southbound carriageway near Lancaster at 10.27am following the serious collision involving a number of vehicles.
The southbound carriageway was closed all day between junctions 33 and Lancaster Forton services with long delays in the area.

Eight people, including two children, were taken to hospital following the incident. Police, paramedics and fire crews all raced to the scene.
In an update on Monday evening, Lancashire Police confirmed the southbound closure was lifted, with lane three remaining closed for repair work to be carried out on the central reservation overnight.

"We want to let you know the latest following this morning's serious collision on the M6," a statement read.

"The southbound closure has now been lifted although lane three remains closed for National Highways to carry out repair work to the central reservation. Lane three northbound is also closed for repair work but the other two lanes are open.
"The intention is for work to the central barrier to be carried out overnight with all three lanes in each direction being open and ready for Tuesday's morning rush hour.
"We know any closure of the motorway is frustrating, and we are grateful for your understanding while our officers and partner agencies have gone about their work today.
We have made every effort to ensure the motorway has reopened as soon as possible."
