M60 LIVE: Traffic chaos as major crash leaves drivers trapped on busy motorway

Brits have been warned over travel disruption after a multi-vehicle crash happened on the M60 this morning. Police rushed to the scene following the crash which involved two cars. Drivers have been hit with a series of traffic delays as they try and tackle a build-up of lengthy queues on the motorway.

Warning as separate accident causes further congestion

Long delays should be expected following an issue with a lorry on the M62 Westbound. INRIX states: "Long delays due to earlier broken down lorry on M62 Westbound from J19 A6046 Middleton Road (Heywood) to J18 M66 J4 (Simister Island). Congestion to M62 J21 (Milnrow).

All lanes have been re-opened."

Drivers urged to avoid certain routes

Travel service Inrix said: "Severe delays and one lane closed and the entry slip road is partially blocked due to earlier accident on M60 clockwise at J27 A560 Great Portwood Street (Portwood Roundabout). Congestion to J23 (Ashton Under Lyne). "Lanes two and three (of three) have been re-opened after being blocked for around an hour."

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that those involved in the crash sustained 'minor injuries'.

Motorists warned of 'stand still traffic'

Motorists have been warned of "stand still" traffic as drivers try to tackle the rush hour madness.

One person said on Twitter: "Morning all If your travelling on the M60 near Stockport major crash guys stand still traffic." It comes as the National Highways traffic cameras show cars tailing back for miles.

Drivers face 90 minute delays

National Highways said: "Lanes 2 and 3 are reopen on the #M60 clockwise between J27 and J1 near #Stockport following a multi-vehicle collision. Lane 1 remains closed.

"Emergency services continue working at scene.

90 min delays above normal journey time with 6 miles congestion."
