M56 live updates as traffic held due to crashes on both sides of motorway

Emergency services have closed part of the M56 motorway this evening following two crashes. All traffic is currently being held on the M56 eastbound in both directions near Liverpool Airport today, Friday, June 20. The closure is between J14 Stanlow and J12 Runcorn on the eastbound carriageway and J10 on the westbound carriageway.

There are delays of up to two hours and 12 miles of congestion, according to the National Highways. In an update on X, National Highways said: "Traffic remains held on the #M56[1] eastbound between J14 Stanlow[2] and J12 Runcorn[3] due to a collision There is around 12 miles of congestion on approach which is adding about 2 hours to normal journey times."
