M25 incident leaves woman fighting for life

A woman is fighting for her life in hospital after police were called to an incident on the M25[1] in Surrey. The motorway was closed anti-clockwise from just before 6.30pm . It happened between Junction 6 at Godstone and Junction 5 for Sevenoaks.

Traffic was brought to a standstill as emergency services rushed to the scene, with an air ambulance also landing. Surrey Police[2] later confirmed that officers were called out at around 5.30pm. It said in a statement: "Just after 5.30pm police were called following a report of a concern for safety on the clockwise carriageway of the M25 between junction 5 and 6.

"The road was closed in both directions whilst officers and an air ambulance attended the scene. "A woman in her 40s has been taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. Her next of kin have been made aware.

"Thank you for your patience whilst we responded to this incident." Earlier, police had advised drivers to avoid the area near to Clacket Lane Services. Traffic cameras showed long tailbacks leading up to the closed stretch of the busy motorway.

National Highways said at 6.23pm: "The M25 is now CLOSED anti-clockwise between J6 ( #Godstone[3] ) and J5 ( #Sevenoaks[4] ) due to a police-led incident. "Surrey Police are working on scene. Please note; the M26 is also closed from J3 More information to follow."

The motorway reopened at around 7pm, with residual delays reported for a short time.
