Lorry crash stops traffic on M20

There were delays on the M20[1] near Maidstone[2] this morning (July 9) following a crash. The collision, involving a lorry and a car, took place on the London-bound carriageway near junction 4 for Leybourne and the A228, and it was first reported shortly before 9am. All traffic was subsequently held on the motorway for around 15 minutes, with queues of traffic building back towards J6 for the A229 and Blue Bell Hill. Kent County Council's[3] (KCC) highways department then confirmed at 9.13am that traffic had been released and all lanes re-opened.

However, delays continued and queues of around three miles persisted in the area for a while after. The driver of the car sustained injuries, not believed to be serious, and was taken to hospital for treatment. A police spokesperson said: "Kent Police was called at 8.41am to a two-vehicle collision near J4 of the M20.

Officers attended the scene alongside the South East Coast Ambulance Service, where one person was taken to a local hospital for treatment to injuries not believed to be serious."

Normal travel conditions along the M20 London-bound resumed shortly after 10am.
