Hybrid EV from China’s Chery delivers massive 932-mile range

Chery's SUV-focused brand Jetour is expanding its plug-in hybrid lineup with the upcoming Shanhai L7 Plus, a more advanced version of the existing Shanhai L7. The Jetour's Shanhai L7, launched on September 27, 2024, is a midsize plug-in hybrid SUV that has garnered attention for its blend of performance, efficiency, and advanced technology. Now, positioned as a premium PHEV SUV, the L7 Plus builds on the brand's Kunpeng hybrid technology platform, pairing a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor and a 32.7 kWh battery pack.
The system delivers a combined output of 355 hp and a total range of up to 932 miles, including 137 miles of electric-only driving. Market entry is expected in the second half of August 2025, with Jetour targeting families and long-distance travelers looking for efficient yet powerful mobility.
Plug-in hybrid system offers strong torque and electric range
The Jetour Shanhai L7 Plus features a sophisticated plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor, supported by a robust 32.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack[1]. This hybrid setup delivers a maximum engine output of 115 kW (154 hp), while the combined system power reaches an impressive 265 kW (355 hp).
With a peak torque of 530 Nm (391 lb-ft), the Shanhai L7 Plus balances strong acceleration and fuel efficiency, providing drivers with both dynamic performance and extended electric driving capability. This combination supports a smooth transition between electric and combustion power, optimizing energy use for long-range driving. Chery's[2] Falcon 500 powers the advanced driving assistance system, enabling features such as highway navigation on autopilot (NOA), urban memory NOA for complex city driving, and automated parking assist. On the exterior, the Shanhai L7 Plus stands out with redesigned headlights and taillights, along with sleek semi-hidden door handles, giving it a more modern and refined appearance compared to the original L7.
