Horror M60 crash shuts motorway with man fighting for life

Police are appealing for witnesses

A motorcyclist was fighting for life in hospital today after a collision on the M60[1] motorway on Saturday. Greater Manchester Police[2] has issued an appeal and confirmed an investigation was now underway.
The rider, a man aged in his 50s, was taken to hospital with injuries[3] described by police as 'life-threatening'.
Emergency services were called to a section of the M60 between Bredbury, Stockport[4], and Denton[5] shortly after 1.40pm, with an air ambulance also landing at the scene.
In a statement on Sunday, GMP said: "We're appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage after a motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after a collision on the M60 on Saturday.

"Shortly after 1.40pm on 12 July we were called to a report of a collision involving a motorbike on the anti-clockwise side of the motorway between junctions 25 and 24.
"Patrols responded and a man in his 50s - believed to be the motorcyclist - was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
"His family have been informed.

"Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit is conducting enquiries. So far, it isn't believed that any other vehicle was involved in this incident.
"We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage to contact us."

Members of the public who stopped to give the man initial first aid have been thanked by police.
Diversions were put in place and the motorway didn't reopen until 11pm on Saturday night. No further details have been revealed.
