Durham A690 crash live: Road reopens after collision between lorry and van

What we know so far about the collision on the A690

A road closure is currently in place on the A690 Brancepeth to A690 Scripton Gill junction following a collision between a lorry and a van. Emergency services were called to reports of a collision shortly after 11.15am this morning. Durham Constabulary, North East Ambulance Service and County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.

One person has been taken to University Hospital of North Durham for further treatment. A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic incident today (Tuesday 1 July) at 11:17 on A690 in Brancepeth, Durham. We dispatched one ambulance crew, one specialist paramedic and one duty officer to the incident.

One patient was taken to University Hospital of North Durham for further treatment." Three fire engines were called to assist at the scene and one still remains at the scene. A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 11.19am today to a collision between a lorry and a van on the A690 between Willington and Brancepeth.

Three fire engines were in attendance from Durham, Spennymoor and Bishop Auckland fire stations. One fire engine from Durham remains at the scene." Earlier today, Durham Constabulary said: "A road closure has been put in place on the A690 Brancepeth to A690 Scripton Gill junction.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours.
