Dartford Crossing to be closed ‘into the evening’ after lorry crash

The crossing is closed both ways after a lorry hit a car and spilt fuel across the road around 11am today (July 3). The road surface and barriers were damaged in the crash and repairs are ongoing, say Essex Police. The road is expected to "remain closed throughout this afternoon and into this evening", added police.
While the key crossing is closed, drivers are warned of disruption to the surrounding roads.
A woman received minor injuries in the crash and taken to Basildon University Hospital. An Essex Police spokesperson said: "We expect the Dartford River Crossing to remain closed throughout this afternoon and into this evening following an earlier collision and damage to the road surface and barriers. "For the latest updates regarding this closure, please check National Highways.
"These repairs are important to maintain the safety of the bridge for all road users. "We would like to thank drivers affected already for their ongoing patience, and encourage everyone to check before travelling in the area this evening. "Disruption to the surrounding road network is expected and drivers should plan their journeys accordingly."
They previously said: "Working with National Highways, we have closed the Dartford River Crossing following a collision just before the bridge between a car and lorry at about 11.05am on Thursday 3 July. "The road will remain closed for several hours due to damage to the road surface and barriers. "We remain at the scene with fire and ambulance colleagues.
One person is reported to have minor injuries. "It is important drivers affected by this incident continue to drive safely and we ask drivers for their patience while we make sure the road is safe. "Drivers should check before they travel and plan their journeys accordingly.
"We will share further updates regarding the reopening of the road in due course."
