A27 reopened after collision which shut road for hours

Emergency services closed the westbound carriage of the A27 Shoreham Bypass[1] yesterday morning (July 28) after a collision involving two lorries. The incident caused major traffic disruptions, with delays of over 60 minutes reported by AA. The public were advised to 'avoid the area' and a diversion was put in place.



The road remained closed throughout the night while recovery work and resurfacing work was completed, due to a large diesel spillage. National Highways reported the road to be reopened at around 4.30am this morning (July 29). The collision happened around 9.30am yesterday (28 July) and involved two HGVs. "No serious injuries reported. No arrests have been made at this time.

"The road is now fully reopened, having previously been closed on the A27 Westbound between the junction of A293 to the Southwick Tunnel." A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service added: "Joint Fire Control mobilised three fire engines and a heavy rescue tender to the scene. "Upon arrival crews found one lorry leaking fuel.

Firefighters made the scene safe."
