A2 blocked by crash involving lorry

Traffic was stopped on part of the A2 this morning (July 24) due to a crash. The road at Barham was closed London-bound because of the collision, which involved a car and a lorry. The busy route, towards Canterbury[1], was forced to shut from the A260 (Aylesham/Womenswold, Barham) to Bishopsbourne/Kingston (Bishopsbourne).

Drivers heading towards the city were stopped at 7.40am for around one hour, leading to queuing traffic down the road. A police spokesperson told KentLive[2]: "Kent Police received a report of a collision involving a car and a lorry at 7.24am on Thursday, July 24. Officers attended the scene on the London-bound carriageway of the A2 near Bishopsbourne, Canterbury.

"Kent Fire and Rescue Service and the South East Coast Ambulance Service were also in attendance. No serious injuries were reported. Following vehicle recovery, the road was clear by around 9.50am."

Fire crews used hydraulic equipment to free a woman from one of the involved vehicles.

She was then passed into the care of paramedics and taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
