A14 shut after collision between fuel tanker and lorry

A stretch of the A14 is shut after a collision between a fuel tanker and a lorry. The incident has caused the major route between junction 47a at Woolpit and junction 51 at Needham Market to be closed in both directions. Police have advised motorists to avoid the A14 around Stowmarket.

Firefighters working to bring a fire from the collision under control.

Police and the ambulance service are also at the scene. According to the AA traffic map, there a long queues along the A14. National Highways traffic officers are attending to assist with traffic managment.

A diversion route is in place.

Drivers travelling eastbound are being diverted via junction 47a by police, however a strategic diversion route is available for those approaching from further afield via J43 following the 'Hollow Circle' diversion symbol on road signs. - Exit the A14 at junction 43 (Bury St Edmunds) - Take the first exit onto the A143 and continue for about13 miles, passing Great Barton, Ixworth and Rickinghall, to the junction with the A140 at Scole

- Take the 3rd exit onto the A140 south and travel for approximately 15 miles, remaining on the A140, to re-join the A14 at J51

Road users travelling westbound are being diverted via local routes.
