Serious lorry crash shuts M20

Part of a busy motorway is shut due to a serious crash involving a HGV this afternoon (June 5). The incident has happened on the east-bound carriageway of the M20[1] between junction 8 for Hollingbourne and junction 9 for Ashford[2]. Kent Police are at the scene while investigations take place, working alongside National Highways traffic officers who are assisting with traffic management.
There is slow-moving traffic on the M20 between J5 and J8 due to the closure, according to Kent County Council's highways team. Drivers are being warned to "expect delays". A National Highways spokesperson said: "Due to the severity of the incident, the closure is likely to remain ongoing for a protracted amount of time."
A diversion route has been put in place. KentLive[3] has approached emergency services for further information.
