Road to stay closed until repairs made on major road after lorry crash

Road closures along a major Peterborough parkway will remain in place until emergency repairs are complete. The Frank Perkins parkway in Peterborough[1] has been partially closed since Tuesday (June 3) afternoon after a lorry crashed into the central reservation at around 4pm. Two lane closures were put in place and still remain in place on Wednesday (June 4) while emergency repairs are being made.

Peterborough City Council, which oversees the road, is working with contractors to assess the damage. A council spokesperson said: "Following an incident which resulted in damage to the central reservation barrier on the Fletton Parkway, we have installed two lane closures in both directions and a reduced speed along a section of the road, to help ensure safety for motorists. "We are currently working with contractors to assess the damage and arrange repairs.

The lane closures will remain in place until repairs have been completed." Inrix, a traffic monitoring site, said there is queuing traffic while the repairs take place. It said: "A1139 Frank Perkins Parkway in both directions partially blocked, queueing traffic due to emergency repairs between J3A A605 Stanham Way (Aldi Roundabout) and J5 Boongate."

Cambridgeshire[2] Police were also called to the incident. A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 4.08pm yesterday (June 3) with reports a HGV had collided with the central reservation on the Frank Perkins Parkway (A1139) in Peterborough. The collision happened close to the Stanground junction with the A605.

"No injuries were reported and two lanes were closed while the incident was dealt with."
