Road reopens after lorry accident closes A50

The A50 eastbound was closed following an accident involving a lorry. The road was shut eastbound between A518 Derby Road (Water Bridge roundabout, Staffordshire) and A515 Station Road (Sudbury Roundabout, Sudbury). The accident was first reported at 1.36am.
Work was under way on Thursday morning to recover the lorry which has left the carriageway. As of 6.45am traffic was building up at both ends of the A50 closure and delays were estimated at around 50 minutes. National Highways said traffic was expected to return to normal between 7am and 7.15am.
A National Highways spokesperson said: "The A50 Doveridge Bypass is closed eastbound between the A515 Ashbourne Interchange and the A515 Sudbury Roundabout. "The closure is to allow the recovery of a lorry which left the road and overturned. This is a complex recovery operation requiring two cranes and heavy duty recovery vehicles.
"Derbyshire police and National Highways contractors are overseeing the recovery and traffic management."
