Pedestrian ‘hit by lorry’ in Clacton airlifted to hospital with ‘serious injuries’

Old Road, in Clacton, was shut shortly after noon today[1], as the East of England Ambulance Service and Essex Police attended the scene of a collision between a pedestrian and vehicle. Partial closures were also in place nearby in St Osyth Road and Meredith Road as emergency crews responded. The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed a person had been hit by a lorry[2].
The pedestrian was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital. An ambulance service spokesman said: "We were called around 12.15pm to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a lorry on Old Road in Clacton-on-Sea. "An ambulance, ambulance officer vehicle, rapid response vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.
"The pedestrian, an adult man, was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital with serious injuries for treatment." An Essex Police spokesman said: "We were called by paramedics to reports of a single-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in Old Road Clacton, at about 12.15pm. "At the scene it was reported a pedestrian has sustained a potentially life-changing injury and was taken to hospital by air ambulance for urgent treatment.
"We temporarily closed the road while it was made safe and cleared, and it has now reopened."
