No clear opening date for Surrey road closed by lorry crash

A Shalford road is still closed after a vehicle crashed into a building last week. The Street (A281) has been shut since Thursday (May 29) causing traffic from Guildford[1] and Bramley[2] to divert. The road closure[3] was caused after a high-sided vehicle struck a building.
This collision caused questions about the safety of parts of the building as well as concerns sections may collapse into the road. The highway remains shut between Church Close and The Seahorse Pub as the building structure is assessed and made safe, and so that members of the public are protected from falling debris. Surrey County Council[4] is working closely with Guildford Borough Council[5] to reopen the road as soon as possible, but say the complexity of the repairs means there is no timetabled opening date.
In the meantime cars are being diverted along Broadford and Old Portsmouth Road. Join our new WhatsApp community! Click this link[6] to receive your daily dose of SurreyLive content. We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
