Man, 57, dies after horrific crash which closed motorway for eight hours

A man aged 57 has been pronounced dead following a horror motorway crash. Emergency services rushed to the scene on the M60 at around 3.56am this morning (June 29). Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that a 57-year-old man was declared dead at the scene which is north east of Manchester.
The M60 has been closed in both directions for about eight hours as police probe the circumstances. A spokesperson for the force said earlier today: "At around 3:56am this morning (Sunday 29 June 2025) emergency services responded to reports of a road traffic collision on the M60 between junctions 21-20. Sadly, a 57-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene," reports the Manchester Evening News[1].
"Lane closures remain in place this morning while officers conduct their enquiries." The M60 was closed in both directions. National Highways issued an update, saying: "The M60 in Greater Manchester is closed anti-clockwise between J23 near (Ashton-Under-Lyne) and J21 (Chadderton) due to a police-led Incident which occurred shortly before 04:00 this morning.
The clockwise carriageway is closed between J22 and J23. "Greater Manchester Police continue their investigation work at the scene. National Highways Traffic Officers are also in attendance assisting with traffic management."
