M62 delays: Emergency services rush to multiple-vehicle crash

According to National Highways, delays of more than five miles were reported earlier this morning. The delays spilled over on to the M6 and were reported back to junction 22 at Newton-le-Willows. The accident happened near to junction 11 eastbound on the M62 at Birchwood around 7am.

It involved three cars and a van. National Highways has confirmed that all lanes have now been reopened and the vehicles have been recovered. Live traffic tracker INRIX states as of around 9.15am: "M62 Cheshire

"Traffic easing, accident cleared on M62 Eastbound from J11 A574 Birchwood Way (Birchwood) to J12 M60 J12 (Eccles Interchange).

"Previous congestion to M6 J22 (Newton Le Willows) southbound.

All lanes have been re-opened."
