M62 crash UPDATES: Traffic stopped as emergency services rush to horror scene

Motorists face severe delays on a busy motorway[1] this evening following a serious crash with emergency services at the scene. A van appears to have crashed into the central reservation on the M62 and ended up on top of another car on the westbound carriageway near J22 for Rishworth Moor, West Yorkshire. Police and paramedics are currently on the scene along with Highways officers - with all traffic held at first following the crash.

One lane of the eastbound carriageway has also been closed along with two lanes now on the westbound. A National Highways[2] spokesperson said: "A truck has collided with the central reservation barrier on the M62 at J22 Saddleworth 2 lanes are closed westbound and 1 lane eastbound Delays of 3 hours westbound and 30 minutes eastbound." All lanes back open on the M62 but 'long delays remain'

Motorists are still facing long delays on the westbound carriageway of the M62 but all the lanes of the motorway are now open following the crash this afternoon.

National Highways stated: "All lanes are now open on the #M62 eastbound at J22 #Saddleworth Long delays of around an hour and a half remain on the westbound but this will ease now. Thanks for being patient."

Air ambulance went to scene of serious crash on M62

An air ambulance was sent to the serious crash on the M62 today which has led to three hour delays on the motorway. Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We received an emergency call at 4.09pm on Tuesday afternoon (24 June) to report a collision on the M62 just before junction 22 (westbound).

"An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and one patient was checked over, but did not need to be conveyed to hospital."

Chris Brown fans ask singer to delay Manchester concert after M62 crash

Chris Brown fans asked the singer to delay his concert at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester after getting stuck behind a major crash on the M62. There are delays of three hours on the westbound carriageway, towards Manchester, after a van smashed into the central reservation and a car became wedged underneath. The crash came as RnB singer Chris Brown was gearing up to perform to sell-out crowds at the Co-op Live arena tonight.

It was the third of his four-show stint at the venue in east Manchester as part of his Breezy Bowl XX tour. Ahead of the show on Tuesday (June 24), fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to ask the venue and singer to delay the show due to them being stuck in the M62 congestion. One fan tweeted: "@TheCoopLive really hoping that Chris Brown is delayed a bit.

The traffic on the M62 is a nightmare, and we are going to be so late, despite leaving early." Another posted: @TheCoopLive @chrisbrown can we delay Chris brown there's a crash on the M62!" as a third comment added: "@TheCoopLive Major delays on M62 following a major traffic collision - lots of people will not be arriving until late."

'Severe' delays on M62 with recovery work underway after a major crash

Motorists face three hour delays on the M62 with the AA traffic updates saying that recovery work is underway following a crash first reported at 3.19pm. "Recovery Work, severe delays, earlier Crash, lanes closed," it states. "Severe delays and two lanes closed due to recovery work and earlier crash on M62 Westbound at J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor).

"Van propped up on the central reservation, traffic now passing in lane one (of three). Lane three (of three) on the other side also closed."

Van is stuck on the central reservation after collision with car

A van has been left trapped on the central reservation of the motorway after a collision with a car. Inrix said: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident on M62 Westbound at J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor).

Van is propped up on the central reservation, Westbound now held. Lane three on the other side also closed." There are severe delays of up to three hours now on the westbound carriageway in West Yorkshire.

Chaos on M62 with slip road closed after separate crash

A second crash on the M62 this evening has caused a slip road to be closed.

The Westbound exit slip road is shut now at J19 for the A6046 Middleton Road in Heywood, although traffic is said to be 'coping well'.

Three hour delays now after van and car crash

There are now delays of three hours on the M62 westbound following a crash between a car and van into the central reservation. There is traffic chaos this evening with two lanes still currently closed and miles of congestion on the busy motorway. National Highways Yorkshire provided the update following the incident at J22 this evening.

Horrifying footage showed the moment a white van appears to have crashed into the central reservation today along with another car, which is beneath it.

West Yorkshire Police have said it is a damage-only collision and that no injuries have been reported this evening.
