M4: Car flips over on motorway during car fire congestion
At around 6pm, June 19, emergency services were called to a car fire on the motorway, with the fire service having to extinguish the vehicle, causing severe delays for motorists. Further along the M4 but still between J16 and J17, and at around 6.40pm, a separate incident took place crash causing congestion levels to continue, with delays expected of up to 30 minutes taking place
According to AA Traffic[1] Maps, the road was "partially blocked due to a rolled-over vehicle on M4 westbound". National Highways said: "New incident on M4 westbound between J16 for Swindon and J17 for Cirencester and Chippenham. "Traffic stopped due to a collision.
"Wiltshire Specialist Operations, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue and South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust are on scene." Recommended reading Wiltshire Police said: "We are currently attending following reports of a road traffic collision on the M4 between J16 and J17 of the westbound carriageway.
"There are no reported serious injuries."
The crash and vehicle recovery worked forced two out of the three lanes to be closed.
Traffic was slow all the way up until 8.40pm when the crash incident was finally cleared by authorities.
