M3 traffic caused by police talking man down from bridge

The closure happened on the afternoon of Tuesday June 3, before the man came down safely at 3.05pm. Huge traffic queues formed, contributed to by a previous incident on the southbound carriageway between Basingstoke and Winchester[1]. A police spokesperson said: "At 2.35pm officers responded to calls relating to the concerns for welfare of a man on the wrong side of the railings on the bridge across the M3 between junctions 9 and 10.

"The road was closed while officers spoke to the man. "The man was brought to safety at 3.05pm and the road was re-opened." In relation to the previous incident, they added: "A single car collision was reported at 1.35pm on the M3 and minor injuries were sustained.

This has since been cleared."
