M20 diversion route as serious lorry crash shuts motorway

Drivers are being diverted as part of a busy motorway has been shut due to a serious crash involving a HGV[1]. The M20[2] is closed eastbound between junction 8 for Hollingbourne and junction 9 for Ashford. Motorists travelling east-bound on the M20 are advised to follow the hollow circle diversion symbol on road signs.

They need to exit the M20 at J8 and take the third exit at the roundabout, and at the next roundabout take the first exit onto the A20. They should remain on the A20 until the junction with Fougeres Way, where it will turn northwards towards J9 of the M20 and re-join the M20 eastbound at J9. In its latest update, a National Highways spokesperson said: "Kent Police are at the scene while investigations take place, working alongside National Highways traffic officers who are assisting with traffic management.

"Due to the severity of the incident, the closure is likely to remain on-going for a protracted amount of time." They added: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. "Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey." It is not yet known when the closure will be lifted. For all the latest updates on this breaking news story, follow our live blog here[3].
