Lorry crash causes ‘severe delays’ on M62

Drivers are being warned of "severe delays" on the M62 this evening as work continues to clean up after a lorry crashed into railings on a bridge. The crash happened at around 4.30am on Friday, June 13 at junction 9 of the motorway near Newton Road (Winwick). While the motorway was initially closed in both directions this morning, the M62 eastbound reopened to traffic around 3.30pm.
But the westbound carriageway remains closed as emergency resurfacing works continue after a large diesel spillage from the lorry. According to traffic management system Inrix, there is already congestion building from Junctions 9 to 10, as commuters head home for the weekend. Traffic is being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads
