Recap: A50 shut after lorry flips in late-night crash

Motorists are being warned a stretch of the A50 is shut this morning after a truck flipped in a late-night collision. Recovery work is underway on the eastbound carriageway between the A515 turning for Ashbourne and the roundabout at Sudbury. National Highways say it is a 'complex recovery operation' which has seen two cranes brought in.

It comes after a lorry 'left the road and overturned'. Now motorists are being urged to follow diversions. It also comes during an already busy time on the A50 through Uttoxeter where works have been going on over the River Dove - triggering queues in both directions.

This morning and a closure remains in place as officials look to recover the wagon. A National Highways spokesperson said: "The A50 Doveridge Bypass is closed eastbound between the A515 Ashbourne Interchange and the A515 Sudbury Roundabout. The closure is to allow the recovery of a lorry which left the road and overturned.

This is a complex recovery operation requiring two cranes and heavy duty recovery vehicles.

"Derbyshire Police and National Highways contractors are overseeing the recovery and traffic management."
