The crash caused delays of up to three hours on the busy motorway

Horrifying images captured the moment a lorry smashed into the central reservation with another car wedged underneath in a crash on the M62[1] on Tuesday evening (June 24).

There were major delays of three hours after all traffic was held on the westbound carriageway near J22. Emergency services including police and paramedics raced to the scene at around 4pm.

A closure was originally put in place before two lanes were later reopened, with delays of three hours on the westbound carriageway during rush hour. A lane was also closed on the eastbound carriagway.

National Highways Yorkshire said a lorry had crashed into the central reservation.

Pictures also showed another vehicle, a Kia, which appeared to have been wedged underneath.

There were severe delays throughout early evening as recovery work was undertaken following the crash, which was reported at J22 for Rishworth Moor.

West Yorkshire Police later confirmed the crash was a 'damage-only' collision and that no injuries were reported.

In an update, National Highways saidL "A truck has collided with the central reservation barrier on the M62 at J22 Saddleworth[3]. Two lanes are closed westbound and one lane eastbound.

"Delays of three hours westbound and 30 minutes eastbound."
