Guns seized at Freeport Airbnb rental, police say
FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) - An investigation is underway in Freeport after officers report they found several guns when they were called to an Airbnb rental.
Police say just before 11 p.m. June 7, the owner of an Airbnb in the 1800 block of Indian Springs Court called police to have guests removed because the guests weren't following the rules.
When officers arrived, those in the rented space started to leave. Police say as they were clearing the space, they saw a loaded pistol in plain view on a living room table.
Freeport police say they told five people still at the rental they weren't free to leave. Investigators report all five live in Rockford.
The property owner gave police permission to search the property where officers report they found an additional AK-47 rifle and seven semi-automatic pistols with high-capacity magazines. Three of the pistols were reportedly fitted with illegal "switches" that allow the guns to fire automatically.
Officials with the Freeport Police Department say Illinois State Police is conducting a forensic analysis of the weapons and charges could be filed in the future.
