Freeport police find note taped to man’s body while investigating shooting deaths

The Freeport Police Department[1] and others continue to investigate the shooting deaths of two men.
According to Freeport police, officers responded to a home in the 1700 block of South Galena Avenue on the morning of June 5 on a call for service stating two people had been shot.
When officers arrived, they found two men who had sustained apparent gunshot wounds.
The victims were identified as Chad Wirsing, 51, and Paul Laird, 50. Wirsing and Laird resided at the residence. Advertisement

Police discovered a firearm near Laird's body and another firearm tucked in the front of Laird's pants, the news release states.
The Stephenson County Coroner pronounced both men dead at the scene.
According to the news release, a preliminary investigation indicates that Wirsing was struck multiple times and that Laird had a single gunshot wound.
Officers also recovered a note taped to Laird's body that explained the motive for his actions.
The investigation is ongoing. The official cause of death will be determined by the Stephenson County Coroner's Office.
