Essex Police appeal for witnesses after three-vehicle crash closes M11 for 12 hours
Essex Police is appealing for witnesses after a collision involving a lorry and two other vehicles closed the M11 between Bishop's Stortford and Harlow for 12 hours. The force was called just after 2.30pm yesterday (Monday, June 16) to the scene where, according to National Highways, a heavy goods vehicle crossed from the northbound carriageway[1] onto the southbound lanes, overturned and came to rest on its side. The northbound carriageway was closed between Junctions 7a and 8 until 1.40am today (Tuesday, June 17) and the southbound carriageway, blocked between Junctions 8 and 7, was cleared at 2.34am.
Collision investigators worked until the early hours while barrier repairs were carried out.
During the gridlock which followed the crash, pedestrians were filmed walking down the motorway's hard shoulder with suitcases, heading for Stansted Airport. A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch.
