Driver suffered ‘potentially serious injuries’ after lorry overturned near Whitchurch

A lorry driver suffered potentially serious injuries when his vehicle overturned near Whitchurch last night (Tuesday, June 24). Emergency services were called to Sandford shortly before 5pm after the large goods vehicle overturned on the junction of the A41 and the B5065. The male driver, who had been trapped, was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital under emergency blue light conditions.

READ MORE: Drivers told to avoid the area after 'serious' HGV crash near Whitchurch[1] A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called shortly before 5pm to an overturned lorry at the junction of the A41 and B5065 in Sandford, Whitchurch. "One ambulance attended the scene.

Upon arrival, we found a man who was the driver of the lorry. He was assessed and had sustained potentially serious injuries. "He received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital under emergency blue light conditions for further treatment."

MOST READ: The incident happened near Sandford Bridge, which was being assessed for damage. Firefighters from Prees attended the scene, along with crews from Whitchurch, Hodnet and Wellington, and an operations officer.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Road traffic collision involving one LGV driver released using Holmatro cutting equipment, now in care of ambulance crews.

Police were also in attendance.
