Driver killed in lorry crash that shut M20 for 12 hours

A lorry driver was killed in a crash that shut the M20 for 12 hours. Police said the man in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle left the road near Ashford on Thursday (June 5). Kent Police was called at 3.16pm to the incident on the coastbound side of the M20 carriageway, at the junction nine slip road.

Officers attended alongside South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service. The road reopened at around 3.45am this morning (June 6). Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward[1] and also want to hear from drivers who may have dashcam footage.

Kent Police said: "The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 60s, was confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been made aware. "An investigation into the circumstances is underway.

Anyone who saw what happened or who may have dashcam footage of the lorry prior to the incident, should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit. "Call on 01622 798538 quoting reference SM/HM/038/25. Alternatively email [email protected][2]." Dashcam footage can be uploaded via the online portal here[3].

The closure of the motorway led to severe delays into the night on Thursday, with drivers asked to avoid the area.
