Driver dies after lorry overturns on M20 slip-road

A driver has died after his lorry overturned on an M20 slip-road. The crash happened on the coastbound exit at junction 9 near Ashford, resulting in a 12-hour closure of the motorway.

Emergency services descended on the scene[1] shortly after 3pm yesterday. Police have today confirmed the driver of the vehicle, a man in his 60s, died at the scene and his next of kin has been made aware.

An investigation into the circumstances is underway. The coastbound carriageway was closed yesterday afternoon, with drivers having to turn off at junction 8 in Maidstone and follow a diversion along the A20. The road remained closed until just before 4am this morning.

The crash caused major disruption for drivers, with traffic queuing for more than 17 miles to the Aylesford and A229 junction at junction 6.
