Two-hour delays on M5 after major crash involving multiple vehicles

There are currently two-hour delays on the M5 in Somerset[1] following a multi-vehicle crash this evening, Monday, May 19. Drivers face major delays on the motorway after traffic was held at a standstill between Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon. There are now severe delays on the motorway[2] as two lanes are closed.

It has also been reported that there is debris on the road, adding to the disruption. Long tailbacks have formed between junction 20 and 21, with drivers told to add an additional two hours to their expected journey times. Congestion is stretching back to Portishead, with seven miles of traffic on the approach to the scene of the incident.

National Highways warned drivers that emergency services were at the scene and reported that traffic was initially held. It said: "Traffic is held on the M5 south in Somerset between J20 and J21. "This is due to a multi vehicle collision.

They said: "M5 southbound, from J20-J21 Clevedon to Weston-super-Mare, traffic at standstill."

Roads and traffic monitoring site, Inrix, reported the crash at 5.16pm.

It said: "Long delays and two lanes closed due to multi-vehicle accident on M5 southbound from J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way (Clevedon) to J21 A370 (Weston-super-mare)."
