Police on the scene after lorry crashes into Powys railway bridge

Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed on Tuesday morning (May 27) that officers were on the scene after a vehicle struck a bridge on the A470. Emergency services were called after receiving reports of a collision which has disrupted transport in the county.

According to Dyfed-Powys Police the crash involved a lorry which crashed into a railway bridge which witnesses have said was at Pontdolgoch. A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Dyfed-Powys Police received a report from Network Rail that a lorry had collided with a railway bridge on the A470 at Caersws at just before 10am.
"No injuries have been reported, and the bridge is not believed to have been damaged. "Police will remain at the scene while debris is cleared."

The crash led to Traffic Wales warning of "congestion" in the area while Dyfed-Powys Police advised drivers to "please be patient and take an alternative route if possible or plan extra time into your journey."
The crash also caused delays on the Cambrian line this morning with delays expected for much of today.
In its latest update, the transport information system Inrix said: "Delays of up to 20 minutes on Transport for Wales between Welshpool and Machynlleth due to earlier bridge being hit by a road vehicle."
