One hospitalised as specialist rescue teams at scene of M1 lorry incident

Firefighters and specialist Animal Rescue Teams are at the scene of an overturned cattle lorry on Friday morning. The M1 is closed on May 16 in both directions near Dungannon[1] after the incident. One person has been taken to hospital.

A NI Fire and Rescue Service[2] statement said: "Firefighters are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision involving an overturned lorry and a number of cattle on the M1 between Junction 13 and Junction 14. READ MORE: Belfast school closed due to ongoing security alert - live updates[3] "Firefighters from Dungannon[4], Portadown and Armagh are at the scene alongside Specialist Animal Rescue Teams from Omagh[5] and Newcastle as well as Specialist Rescue Teams from Central.

The incident is on-going." A PSNI[6] statement said: "The M1 eastbound and westbound near Lurgan is currently closed. "The closure is in place from junction 12 at Birches off the Dungannon Road junction and junction 13, known as Beatties junction, near the Black Island Road turn-off.

"This is due to an overturned livestock lorry. Update to follow in due course." A NIAS spokesperson said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 05:27 on Friday 16th May, following reports of an RTC on the M1 Motorway.

"NIAS despatched 2 Emergency Crews to the incident. "Following initial assessment and treatment at scene, one person was taken to Craigavon Area Hospital by Ambulance." You can follow our blog for live updates on this story here[7].
