Man dies and flowers laid after lorry crash outside pub in Stoke Newington
Mehmet Suleyman, 72, has been named by his family as the victim who was knocked down after leaving the Rochester Castle pub on Stoke Newington High Street around 2pm on Wednesday (May 14). He was treated at the scene and then taken to hospital, where he died the next day. The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with the investigation, with no arrests made.
His family have told this paper that Mehmet was a local at the pub and would visit there often. People heard screams from the street and rushed to help before the emergency services arrived.

The scene after the crash at night (Image: Ben Gardner) A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "On Wednesday, 14 May at 14:37hrs, police were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Stoke Newington High Street, N16. "Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service who treated a 72-year-old man at the scene.
He was then transported to hospital where he later died. "His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. "The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with the investigation.
No arrests have been made at this stage."
