M6 live updates as lorry fire shuts motorway and long delays

Emergency services have closed part of a motorway this morning after a lorry fire. Two lanes on the M6 Northbound near Warrington[1] have been shut on Tuesday morning after a lorry caught fire. The incident happened in the Thelwall Viaduct near Warrington[2] between junction 20 and junction 21.

A "complex recovery operation" is ongoing this morning and the motorway is expected to remain shut. National Highways has issued an update warning motorists of up to 50 minute delays on approach to the incident. A spokesperson said: "Two lanes (of four) remain closed on the M6 northbound Thelwall Viaduct between J20 (Lymm)and J21 (Warrington) due to an earlier lorry fire.
