LIVE: Woodhead Pass CLOSED following lorry crash

A major road between Manchester and Sheffield has been closed due to a lorry crash. Emergency services have been in attendance on the A628 Woodhead Pass following a collision in the Peak District in the early hours of this morning (May 25). The road is closed between Hollingworth, in Tameside, and the Langsett roundabout at the A616.
National Highways has described the collision as 'serious'. No injuries have been reported. A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: "We received reports of a collision on the A628 Woodhead Pass just before 3.45am on Sunday, May 25.
"The incident involved a lorry which had left the road. The driver was not injured. "The road remains closed to allow for the clean up of diesel."
A major clean-up operation is taking place, with '300 litres of diesel' reportedly being removed. A spokesperson for National Highways added: "The A628 Woodhead Pass is closed in both directions between the A616 (Langsett) and the A6024 (Woodhead) due to a serious collision involving a HGV. "Complex recovery and clear-up works are ongoing and it is still anticipated that the road will remain closed throughout the day, with resurfacing likely to be required.
"A local diversion route is in place. Traffic travelling from further afield is advised to use alternative trans-Pennine routes such as the A57 or M62. "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.
Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
