Live: M5 traffic held after crash as drivers face long delays

Drivers face long delays on the M5 this afternoon[1], Friday, May 16. Traffic was held and one lane remains closed at Tewkesbury after a crash near junction 8. There is also currently heavy traffic on the southbound carriageway of the motorway around Bristol ahead of another warm and sunny weekend.

Traffic monitor Inrix reports: "Long delays, one lane closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M5 northbound from J9 A46 (Tewkesbury) to J8 M50. Congestion to routes through Tewkesbury as traffic seeks an alternative.

Just after 5.40 all traffic was confirmed held for around 15 minutes." Roads and traffic monitoring site, Inrix, reports tailbacks on the M5 southbound near Clevedon and Wellington. It says: "Long delays on M5 southbound around J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way (Clevedon).

Congestion to J15 (M4 interchange).Traffic in patches." There is also congestion on the M49 southbound as drivers head towards the M5[2] and there was slow traffic on the M4 heading westbound towards the Almondsbury Interchange but traffic started to ease from around 6.20pm.
