Dump Truck Crashes Into Whisky a Go Go Music Venue on Sunset Strip
A dump truck crashed into Whisky a Go Go, the legendary music[1] venue on the Sunset Strip, on Friday.
Before the truck slammed into the West Hollywood building, it collided with a powerline and a few other vehicles, including a mail truck, according to NBC News[2].
Amid the news of the crash, the Los Angeles[3] County's Sheriff Department closed Sunset Boulevard and Clark Street, and power in the area was shut off.
"Due to the traffic collision, some power has been affected and power is out to some parts of the area," the LASD shared in an alert[4]. "Crews are currently on scene and working to restore power."
Whisky a Go Go had a show scheduled for Friday night, which included performances by Boy Hits Car, Barefoot in the Bathroom and Gearheart, though the event was canceled[5].
"This dump truck came careening out of control down Clark Street into the back of the Whisky a Go Go, taking out six different cars," said KCAL News' Desmond Shaw in a Friday segment.
He later reported that there were "no serious injuries" as a result of the crash.
The beloved venue[6] opened in 1964, serving as "an anchor on the Sunset Strip since its opening." Over the years, Whisky a Go Go has hosted many musical acts, including the likes of Motley Crue, the Doors, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen and Guns N' Roses, among others.
