Devon bin man dies after crash with bin collection lorry

A bin man has died after being struck by a bin lorry. The young man, a crew member of the white bin lorry, was involved in a collision with the vehicle in Higher Warberry Road, Torquay[1] on Tuesday, May 27. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12.45pm.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a local man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. The incident has also been reported to the Health and Safety Executive.

Devon and Cornwall Police are now appealing for information from anyone who saw the collision, or who has dashcam footage of what happened. Devon and Cornwall Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses and information following a fatal injury road traffic collision in Torquay. "Emergency services were called at 12:43pm on Tuesday 27 May to a collision on Higher Warberry Road, involving a white bin lorry and a member of the crew.

"A local man in his 20s was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been made aware. "The Health and Safety Executive have been informed.

"Anyone with any relevant information or dashcam footage which may assist the investigation is asked to contact police via our website or by calling 101 quoting log 330 of 27 May 2025."

A HSE spokesperson said: "HSE is aware of the incident and we are assisting the Police with their enquiries."
