A1 closed after lorry overturns in serious crash

Drivers warned to 'expect delays' as recovery continues

National Highways has put out a statement on the earlier collision with advice for drivers passing through the area this evening. It reads: " The A1 in Northumberland is closed in both directions between the A697 (Morpeth) and the A1068 (Alnwick) due to a collision involving an overturned Heavy Goods Vehicle. "The overturned HGV lost is load of 32 tonne of wood chippings across the carriageway, which has recently been cleared.

Recovery is now in attendance for all vehicles involved. "Traffic is being diverted via local routes in both directions. If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.
