An inquest into the death of a 24 year-old man in a horror crash on the M62[1] motorway has been formally opened and adjourned.
Dominic Lloyd - described by his family in a tribute issued at the time as a 'true gentleman'[2] who was 'always full of enjoyment' - was driving his car, an S line Audi A5, on the westbound carriageway on March 2 this year.
A brief hearing at Rochdale[3] Coroners' Court on Thursday (April 24), was told the car 'appeared' to 'strike' a motorway bridge at junction 19, near Heywood[4]. The crash happened at around 11.30pm.

The inquest heard of a formal identification process.
Assistant coroner Julie Mitchel said there was a provisional cause of death as multiple injuries and severe burns.
The inquest was told Greater Manchester Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate the crash, with no further details given.

Ms Mitchell ordered a full copy of the post-mortem examination to be provided and set a date for a full inquest into Mr Lloyd's death on August 27. "My condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," she said.
Mr Lloyd - known as Dom - was from Farnworth in Bolton[5]. No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the crash. In a tribute issued after his death, his family said: "The first words that come to mind when we describe 'Dom', our loving son, brother and grandson, would be caring, focused and a true gentleman.
"Dom truly was a wonderful person who always put others before himself.
He was everybody's go-to guy for all of their issues and was a rock for his close friends and family. He had so much care and love in his heart and genuinely cared about those around him, always offering support whenever he felt it might be needed.

"He was extremely funny and although he loved to torment people, it was clear that this was only done jokingly and it never did anybody any harm, quite to the contrary, it cheered people up no-end and everybody described him as a complete gentleman who wasn't a typical 24-year-old.
"He was thoughtful, he was generous, he was respectful and he was very mature and unwaveringly focused on his future and on his career. He brightened up a room with his presence and his massive smile."
Described as being passionate about cars, his family said he also enjoyed paddle ball, go-karting, table-tennis, pool and football.
"Although he had lots of friends, he was not a drinker.
He was very much into socialising, but you would sooner find him eating out with his friends or family at a new place than in a pub or bar. He would often travel quite considerable distances to try different eateries.

We will miss him always."
