Tragedy as teenager dies after being hit by lorry in horror crash
A teenager has tragically died after being hit by a lorry in Lancashire. Police and paramedics rushed to the A683 Bay Gateway in Morecambe[1] shortly after 3am this morning (April 20). It followed reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a HGV between Mellishaw Lane and Northgate.
Morecambe Area Police[2] said the pedestrian, an 18-year-old man from Morecambe[3], suffered 'serious injuries'. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed for around nine hours[4] for investigation works and reopened at around 12pm.
No arrests have been made and officers are now appealing for witnesses and anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage. Sgt Paul McCurrie, from the Road Policing Unit[5], said: "This collision has very sadly resulted in the death of a young man and my thoughts are with his family and loved ones. "I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened or who has any CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch."
