Passerby says it was a ‘miracle’ no one was injured in bin lorry incident

The Lewes District Council recycling truck hit two walls as it made its way down the verge in Hamsey Road in Saltdean this morning. A council spokesman confirmed no one was injured in the incident. Recovery work was undertaken to remove the vehicle[1] and workmen could be seen sweeping away bricks from the broken walls.

 "It was quite spectacular. Never seen anything like that before in my life. "All the neighbours were out and could not believe it.

 "We are all just really pleased that nobody was hurt. "It was a good job nobody was walking along the pavement at the bottom. "There would have been a lot of dog walkers so it was a miracle really.

 "Accidents happen but that was a spectacular one." The road was temporarily closed by Sussex Police while the clean-up operation took place. A spokesman from Lewes District Council said: "A council waste collection vehicle was involved in an accident this morning between Peacehaven and Saltdean.

"There were no injuries."
