Police have closed part of the M6 this evening following a serious crash. Emergency services have shut part of the motorway[1] near Haydock[2] following a crash, which involved three vehicles.
At around 9.10pm on Monday, April 28, Merseyside Police[3] were called to reports of a crash on the M6 Northbound, between Junctions 22 and 23. Officers have put a closure in place on the slip road onto the M6 from Junction 22 and between Junctions 22 and 23 in both directions, while the incident is dealt with.
North West Ambulance Service and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service[4] are also in attendance this evening.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area. It's unclear when the motorway will be reopened at this time.
Traffic monitoring site Inrix said: "M6 Northbound closed, stationary traffic due to accident from J22 A49 Winwick Link Road (Newton Le Willows) to J23 A580 East Lancashire Road (Haydock).
"Diversion - via the A579 through Golborne and Ashton to re-join the M6 at J24."
